SME IPO vs mainboard IPO
Two kinds of IPO share the same calendars but work quite differently.
Mainboard IPOs
Mainboard IPOs list on the main NSE and BSE platforms. They are usually larger issues from bigger companies, with a retail quota and a minimum application of one lot, typically worth roughly ₹14,000 to ₹15,000.
SME IPOs
SME IPOs list on the separate small and medium enterprise platforms, NSE Emerge and BSE SME. Issues are much smaller, and the minimum application is far larger (often ₹1 lakh or more), because lots are big. Trading after listing can be thin.
Why this matters for GMP
- SME grey-market quotes are fewer and move more, so estimates are less settled. You will see more Low-confidence labels on SME IPOs.
- A large share of SME IPOs show a GMP of zero, meaning no premium is being quoted.
- We report mainboard and SME accuracy separately on the track record page once there are enough listings.
